This time last year I was taking off on a trip of a lifetime. Last January I traveled to Ireland with two of my close friends and spent a week there touring the country. I’m still not over how amazing the journey was! I wish I could go back every time I look at the photos. I had the absolute BEST time exploring.
Back in August of 2016, we found the trip listed on Groupon. The rate included round-trip airfare to Ireland and six nights stay in a four-star hotel. The deal was too good to pass up! I was at the beach with my family for our annual vacation when my friends and I decided in a spur of the moment decision to book it for our winter break.
We flew British Airways to London Heathrow Airport where we caught a connecting flight to Dublin Airport. We stayed in the Regency Hotel just a few miles outside of the city. Our five days in Ireland were jampacked with adventures to make the most out of our short stay. We rented a car and traveled all over the island — which was a whole ordeal in and of itself as they drive on the other side of the road (terrifying).
For a few days, we toured Dublin and saw Trinity College (and the “Book of Kells”), Dublin Castle, all of the beautiful Catholic churches, and even toured the Guinness Storehouse. At night went out dancing and to pubs in the Temple Bar area. Stopping in at THE Temple Bar is a must—it was the most fun bar I have ever been to. On the other days, we took road trips to Westmeath, Clare, Wicklow, and Kilkenny. The drive itself was breathtaking. In Wicklow, we stopped at Glendalough Monastic City which had amazing ruins from the 10th through 12th centuries. In Kilkenny, we toured the Kilkenny Castle which had been beautifully restored.
Our last road trip was a four-hour trek to the opposite side of Ireland from Dublin to see the Cliffs of Moher. The drive was rough — there was a horrible fog that day which made visibility low on the winding roads. When we finally made it, it appeared as though we wouldn’t be able to see the cliffs at all since the fog was so bad. But right as we reached the top of the mountain it lifted and the magnificent cliffs came into view. I still, to this day, have never seen such a beautiful view.
I’ll never get tired of looking at these photos. If you want to take a trip down memory lane with me, scroll down!
